When singing, you are being filmed by a camera hidden behind a teleprompter, so when you finish singing you can share your video clip online.
Starshow, a Detroit-based company, approached Taga after having a product that basically worked but was far from meeting their expectations. They desired to turn their vision into a professional, attractive product, with an equally great user experience and low operational costs.
Specifically, the camera, which was located above the screen in the old product, was filming the forehead of the singers, there was no adjustment to user heights, the screen was small and the lighting and acoustics were poor. The time taken to select a song kept the users too long inside the booth.
The booth was exposed to vandalism and the screens needed cleaning and maintenance periodically.
We came up with an innovative solution: using special semi-transparent and non-reflective glasses, we built an adjustable teleprompter box, just like in a TV studio.
This allowed the user to see himself singing like in a mirror on a large screen, while the song lyrics are appearing on the horizon, like in a head-up display, and the camera could take frontal footage of the singer through the glass.
The teleprompter box, which included a LED light frame around it, could tilt with motors up and down, to adjust to different user heights and in addition, a folded bench behind, allowed kids to reach the screen height easily. The wall behind the user allowed to “burn” the image of the singers and implant them in the background video.
To improve it more, we added an operation touch screen, so users will not touch the main glass, and another screen outside, to select the songs while waiting.
The futuristic design of the booth made it much more attractive to the potential audience. It was made with a rigid vandal-proof, acoustic structure, which enabled easy transportation, installation, and maintenance and could be produced at an affordable cost.
