LiDAR is a technology for measuring distance using a laser that illuminates various objects (such as other cars, passengers, etc) and a sensor that measures the wavelength and uses it to determine the distance from the object.
Taga’s team developed the entire front end of the user interface, characterized and defined the software features and capabilities, and built the wireframe for it. Among other things, the team built all the software’s work processes, designed all the screens, managed the human engineering aspects and the adaptation to different platforms.
Despite all the hard work done by Oryx and Taga, the field has changed immensely since the company started its operations, and all the players in the field of LiDAR realized that the autonomous vehicles market will take more time to become mainstream than was originally thought.
Hence, in 2019 the company has decided to shut down its operations, despite having approximately $40 million left that could have kept the company going an additional 3-4 years.

The company raised $ 67 million, but was eventually forced to shut down because their technology was ahead of its time.
